ADCC World Championship Participants Announced – 2 Slots Still Remain as Hometown Girl Sexton Hopes for Last Slot
As the biennial ADCC World Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament approaches in September, most of the the competitors have been announced for the female brackets.
The over 60 kg (132.2 pound) participants are:
Hannette Staack of Brazil (2009 ADCC World champion)
Fiona Muxlow of Australia (Oceania Qualifier)
Penny Thomas of South Africa (North America Qualifier)
Talita Nogueira of Brazil (South America Qualifier)
Devi Ahuja of Norway (European trials winner)
Gabi Garcia of Brazil (invited)
Cris Cyborg of Brazil (invited; Strikeforce 145 pound MMA champion)
There is still one spot left, and there are no Americans among the list as of yet. Former American participants in the division in the past years include Lana Stefanac, Kelly Paul, and Celita Schutz.
The under 60 kg (132.2 pounds) participants are:
Luanna Alzuguir of Brazil (ADCC 2009 World Champion)
Lara Jayne Ng of Australia (Oceania Qualifier)
Takayo Hashi of Japan (Asia Qualifier)
Cat Albert of the USA (North America Qualifier; ranked #4 in 125 pound division of the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings)
Michelle Nicolini of Brazil (South America Qualifier)
Sara Svensson of Norway (European trials winner)
Krya Gracie of Brazil (Confirmed invitation)
Hoping for the last under 60 kg slot is England’s own Rosi Sexton who, besides being ranked #3 in 125 pound division the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings, is one of England’s best grapplers. The Cage Warriors and Bellator fighter is campaigning hard to be able to represent her home country, which is the site of the ADCC this year.
The ADCC World Championships will be held at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England Sept. 24-25. The event will be streamed live at http://www.adcombat.com.
